James Washington Rice,
49, of Colora, died in Union
Hospital on Tuesday,
February 22, as a result of
injuries sustained in an
automobile accident early
Tuesday morning.
Robert Snodgrass of the
Jehovah's Witnesses Church,
near Rising Sun, conducted
funeral services Friday,
February 26, at the Tyson
Funeral Home, Rising Sun.
Born in West Virginia, he
was employed at Chrysler
Corporation, Newark, Del., at
the time of his death, and was
a member of the Jehovah's
 WitnessesChurch.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. James W. Rice, and three
children; James Otha Rice,
currently serving in the U.S.
 Army in Vietnam, Donald
Wayne and Catherine Gail
Rice, both at home; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Rice, South Boston, Va.; two
 sisters, Virginia Rice, South
Boston, and Dorothy Rice,
Washington, D.C.; and nine.
brothers, Oliver, Cheverly,
Md., Lewis, Baltimore, Md.,
Morall and Rayford, both of
 Cleveland, Ohio, Parham,
Clarkton, Va., Clifton,
Richmond, Va., Ernest,
South Boston, Va., and
Raymond and G.W. Rice,
both of Lynchburg, Va.
Interment was in West
Nottingham Cemetery,
Colora.
  In a seprate accident on Route 273 near
273 near Gallaher Road, James
Washington Rice, 47, of COlora,
sustained injuries that caused his death
less than 12 hours later in Union
Hospital,Elkton.
State Police at the North East
barracks reported that Rice,who was
employed at Chrysler Corporation,
Newark,Del.,was east boundon Route
273 at about 6 a.m. when he ran off
the rain-slickroad, lost control of his
Volkswagen,struck an embankment,
and rolled over approximately five times.
Rice's injuries were at first reported to be minor,
including fractured ribs.
It was later learned,however,that he
also suffered a ruptured spleen. He
died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday,February 23, 1971
